Senior Manager, Fund Finance & Accounting
BKM Capital Partners is a growing firm looking for driven, entrepreneurial professionals who are passionate about their work and excited about a new challenge. Located in our Newport Beach, California office, the Senior Manager, Fund Finance & Accounting will play a critical role in overseeing the financial management, accounting, reporting, and operations of the firm’s investment funds, co-investments, and joint ventures.
Reporting directly to the Director, Finance & Accounting, this position will serve as a key leader within the Finance & Accounting team, managing an internal team and providing direct oversight of the firm’s third-party fund administrator. The Senior Manager will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of fund accounting and financial reporting while also leading fund-level forecasting, liquidity management, performance analysis, and financial modeling.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical accounting foundation combined with a finance-oriented and analytical mindset. This individual should be comfortable moving between detailed financial statements and accounting records, complex fund models and waterfalls, investor reporting, and strategic analysis for senior leadership. The role requires a proactive, hands-on leader who can identify issues, improve processes, develop people, and help build a scalable fund finance and accounting platform as the firm continues to grow.
This role is 100% in-office due to the collaborative nature.
Essential Functions:
Fund Finance, Forecasting & Performance Analysis
- Lead fund-level financial planning, forecasting, and liquidity management across the firm’s investment vehicles, including funds, co-investments, and joint ventures.
- Review and analyze fund performance, including IRRs, equity multiples, realized and unrealized returns, investment performance, and other key financial metrics.
- Prepare and review fund waterfall models, distribution forecasts, and scenario analyses to evaluate expected investor and sponsor economics.
- Partner closely with Portfolio Management and valuation specialists on quarterly asset and fund valuations, ensuring fund-level models appropriately reflect underlying asset performance and assumptions.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to executive leadership regarding fund performance, liquidity, capital requirements, investment activity, and other strategic matters.
- Support ad hoc financial modeling and analysis related to active funds, new investment vehicles, acquisitions, dispositions, recapitalizations, and other strategic initiatives.
Fund Accounting & Financial Reportin
- Serve as the primary internal owner of fund accounting and financial reporting across the firm’s funds, co-investments, and joint ventures.
- Manage and provide direct oversight of the third-party fund administrator, establishing clear expectations, timelines, controls, and service standards.
- Review and approve quarterly and annual fund financial statements, supporting schedules, partner capital accounts, allocations, and underlying accounting records prepared by the fund administrator.
- Ensure accounting records are maintained accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP, fund governing documents, and the firm’s accounting policies.
- Review complex fund accounting matters, including investment activity, intercompany transactions, allocations, management fees, carried interest, fund expenses, and realized and unrealized investment activity.
- Maintain strong internal controls and review procedures over fund accounting, financial reporting, cash activity, and investor-related financial information.
- Identify accounting, reporting, or operational issues proactively and drive them through resolution with internal teams and external service providers.
Capital Activity & Fund Operations
- Oversee fund-level capital activity, including capital calls, distributions, cash movements, and related calculations and supporting documentation.
- Manage fund liquidity and cash requirements in coordination with Treasury, Portfolio Management, and other internal stakeholders.
- Review and approve fund invoices, expense allocations, and intercompany activity and coordinate funding and wire activity with the Treasury team.
- Ensure capital activity is executed accurately and in accordance with fund governing documents and established internal controls.
- Support the onboarding and operational setup of new funds, co-investments, joint ventures, investments, and other investment structures.
- Partner with Legal, Investor Relations, Investments, and other teams on fund-level operational matters and new initiatives.
Audit & Tax
- Lead annual fund audit processes, serving as the primary internal point of contact for external auditors and coordinating across the fund administrator and internal teams.
- Manage audit timelines, deliverables, financial statement reviews, supporting documentation, and resolution of audit comments and technical accounting matters.
- Oversee annual fund tax reporting and compliance processes in coordination with external tax advisors and the third-party fund administrator.
- Review tax-related reporting and investor deliverables, including K-1 processes, and ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Partner with external auditors and tax advisors on complex transactions, new investment structures, and accounting or tax matters affecting the funds.
Investor Reporting & Capital Formation Support
- Review and approve financial information included in quarterly investor reporting and the firm’s investor portal, including Juniper Square.
- Partner closely with Investor Relations to ensure investor inquiries and financial information requests are addressed accurately and timely.
- Review financial information included in investor due diligence questionnaires, fundraising materials, data rooms, and other capital formation materials.
- Support preparation and review of quarterly investor call materials and other investor communications involving fund performance and financial results.
Team Leadership, Technology & Process Improvement
- Lead, manage, mentor, and develop a team of fund finance and accounting professionals, establishing clear expectations and supporting continued professional growth.
- Provide hands-on coaching and technical guidance while maintaining accountability for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of the team’s work.
- Manage the relationship and day-to-day performance of the third-party fund administrator, ensuring the administrator operates as an effective extension of BKM’s internal team.
- Leverage technology, automation, data analytics, and financial systems to streamline recurring processes and reduce manual work.
- Work collaboratively with leaders across Finance, Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Investments, Investor Relations, Treasury, and other functions to improve information flow and execution.
- Help build the people, processes, systems, and infrastructure necessary to support the continued growth and institutionalization of BKM’s investment platform.
The Qualifiers
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in fund accounting, fund finance, or investment management finance, preferably within private equity, real estate, or private markets.
- Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred, particularly serving private equity, real estate, investment management, or alternative investment clients.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing fund financial statements, capital accounts, allocations, investment activity, and other complex fund accounting matters.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing, mentoring, and developing finance and accounting professionals.
- Strong financial modeling capabilities, including experience with cash flow forecasting, waterfall models, IRR/equity multiple calculations, and scenario analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand both the accounting implications and broader financial impact of business decisions.
- Technology-oriented mindset with an interest in leveraging automation, data analytics, and financial systems to improve processes and reporting.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
